Ramblings, Sentiments, Rantings and Musings

My photo
I am a mother of 5 wonderful children and wife to one amazing Navy man. I am always changing things in my life, constantly learning something new and trying it out. I am a wannabe vegan, minimalist and currently living full time in an RV. Just for clarification, I say wannabe, because I know I am not perfect, but each day I strive to do the best I can. That's all I can expect from anyone no matter where they are in life. I learn something new everyday...mostly about myself and my little corner of reality. Life, to me, is loving, learning and making memories. These are better than all the tangible riches one can get their hands on! Besides, there will come a day when all I have left is my love and memories...so I'll stockpile as much of those as I can!
Fall or Winter???
I am finding myself a bit weather or should I say seasonally challenged lately. I am aware that living on the plains and in a desert type area that the temperatures can vary greatly. My brain knows this, but my body oh my poor body. It is a shocker. It confirms to me how easily one (in particular, me) seems to adapt to a particular area.

Living in Florida for four years certainly had me ill prepared for how cold it was when we moved here in March. Also, I kinda figured that since we lived in Maine for 3 years that I knew what cold was. Well, yes I did know. More accurately, knew, because since then I have conveniently forgotten. Hmmm.

How am I gonna survive this winter if I am already freezing? This is supposed to be fall, but they are calling for more temps in the 30's. Yikes. How suddenly the summer has gone.

I am facing this with mixed emotions as well. I am loving knitting hats again for winter and have started a cozy lap blanket with some beautiful soft gray wool that I lucked upon at a yard sale recently. I am looking forward to some quiet time indoors. Some nice down time when sports and most activities are put on hold for a while. Oh yes, I am looking forward to winter.

On the flip side I have some challenges to figure out. How am I gonna keep the chickens warm? Can I find all my soup recipes. Do we have enough warm clothing or do I have an excuse to make more hats and scarves and such? Sorting and shifting summer clothes to heavy winter ones.

And then there are some bitter sweet moments. Watching our garden wither away is kinda sad. The nice thick green leaves of summer are giving way to naked trees who are leaving their color on the ground around them, beautiful... Good bye summer, we'll see you later. Hello fall/winter or whatever it is they call you here!

Famous Quotes

"I am beginning to suspect all elaborate and special systems of education. They seem to me to be built upon the supposition that every child is a kind of idiot who must be taught to think. Whereas, if the child is left to himself, he will think more and better, if less showily. Let him go and come freely, let him touch real things and combine his impressions for himself, instead of sitting indoors at a little round table, while a sweet-voiced teacher suggests that he build a stone wall with his wooden blocks, or make a rainbow out of strips of coloured paper, or plant straw trees in bead flower-pots. Such teaching fills the mind with artificial associations that must be got rid of, before the child can develop independent ideas out of actual experience." -- Anne Sullivan
