Ramblings, Sentiments, Rantings and Musings

My photo
I am a mother of 5 wonderful children and wife to one amazing Navy man. I am always changing things in my life, constantly learning something new and trying it out. I am a wannabe vegan, minimalist and currently living full time in an RV. Just for clarification, I say wannabe, because I know I am not perfect, but each day I strive to do the best I can. That's all I can expect from anyone no matter where they are in life. I learn something new everyday...mostly about myself and my little corner of reality. Life, to me, is loving, learning and making memories. These are better than all the tangible riches one can get their hands on! Besides, there will come a day when all I have left is my love and memories...so I'll stockpile as much of those as I can!
Artists among us...

Earlier on this year or even towards the end of last year my girls began to sketch anime characters. The first drawings were good, but as they have continued to pursue this interest the drawings have become beautiful and amazing. Some have been copies (sketched by looking at the picture) with slight changes and now they have moved to their own creations. Three out of my four girls draw and the fourth creates magic from her imagination. You never know what she may come up with as she has a very busy and wild imagination. I often envy her carefree mind and personality.

I thought that I would (with their permission) post some of their sketches to share. There is something beautiful about putting pencil to paper and bringing forth an image of the imagination. I used to draw when I was younger and loved it. My mother would always tell me I should send my drawings away to some place she had read about in a magazine to see if I really had talent I guess. I never did it. I still love to doodle here and there and I enjoy coloring the drawings of others in coloring books and such. I especially love coloring with my children.

I think it is kind of cool when I sit with all four girls and color. There are times when we will all be sitting at the table coloring away with no sound amongst us. You would think we were working on some great masterpiece that would bring vast amounts of money if sold, but alas it is just us coloring in some $1.99 book from Wal-mart. The quiet concentration is soothing at the end of a rowdy day with 5 children.

I never tell them, as my mother did to me that I think that they should send their drawings off to be judged by another, but I do try to make sure that all the drawings are praised, even down to the youngest. I try to be sure that I am "mentally present" as they explain every color and detail. I hope that they know how amazing I think their talents are. I hope that they will feel free to continue to create to their hearts content always. I hope that they remember it when they sit with their own children one day sharing in a time of imaginative creation. I hope they remember.

Anyway, here are the masterpieces of my babes...

(Sorry for the vagueness of the photos...can't seem to get a good shot of them due to the fact that they are sketched so lightly!)

M. my youngest artist made this picture tonight as a matter of fact...

Here is my third child P., second girl, and artist...

And last, but definitely NOT the least, my eldest daughter B. and sweetest friend/artist...

Dana,

This is terrific when do you find the time? I couldn't do it in million years...still a bit computer phobic. The kids look so grownup. Brianna must love to have the braces off. She looks fabulous. Zach looks taller than jud...I still think of him in my tupperware bowl holding the hair brush. Paxton, Frankie and Miranda look awesome in the gynastics photos. I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!! The different colors are cool. (wash out or semi permanent?) I was thinking about purple...in the summer maybe...don't think the first grade parents would dig the rock star teacher look. anyway be safe in your travels and let us know when you get there.

Famous Quotes

"I am beginning to suspect all elaborate and special systems of education. They seem to me to be built upon the supposition that every child is a kind of idiot who must be taught to think. Whereas, if the child is left to himself, he will think more and better, if less showily. Let him go and come freely, let him touch real things and combine his impressions for himself, instead of sitting indoors at a little round table, while a sweet-voiced teacher suggests that he build a stone wall with his wooden blocks, or make a rainbow out of strips of coloured paper, or plant straw trees in bead flower-pots. Such teaching fills the mind with artificial associations that must be got rid of, before the child can develop independent ideas out of actual experience." -- Anne Sullivan
